About the Project

Bank Street is undergoing a major transformation as our team delivers Phase 1 of this multi-year reconstruction for the City of Ottawa.

The project is renewing one of the city’s busiest corridors from Billings Bridge to Ohio Street, with work continuing through 2027. Above and below ground, aging infrastructure is being replaced while the roadway and streetscape are rebuilt to improve safety, accessibility and the experience of residents, businesses and everyone travelling through the area.

What We Delivered

The scope brings together extensive underground, roadway and streetscape work, including replacement and rehabilitation of watermains, sanitary and storm sewers, road reconstruction, new sidewalks and cycle tracks, upgraded street lighting, modernized traffic signals and landscaping improvements.

The project also includes culvert rehabilitation, asphalt paving, shotcrete, utility reinstatement and traffic management.

Delivering this work within a busy urban corridor requires careful staging. Pedestrian access is a priority, businesses and residences need to remain accessible, and existing underground infrastructure must be navigated while construction moves forward.

Innovation

One of the project’s most challenging components was the rehabilitation of the Saw Mill Creek culvert.

Completed this past winter, the work involved bypassing the Saw Mill Creek overhead, cleaning and shotcreting the interior of the culvert, constructing a rocky ramp, retaining wall and performing patch repairs to the exterior. Crews worked through demanding weather conditions while coordinating multiple activities within a constrained work area.

Elsewhere on the project, close collaboration with the City of Ottawa, consultants and utility partners has helped the team work through existing and unknown underground infrastructure—including areas with multiple Hydro/Bell ducts within a 15-metre section—while maintaining access and keeping work moving.

Impact

With the Saw Mill Creek culvert rehabilitation complete and Heron Road reopened, work is moving into the next stages of this four-year project.

The Riverside Drive closure is planned for Summer 2026, followed by final paving and landscaping in 2027. Once complete, the renewed Bank Street corridor will provide modern underground infrastructure, safer and more accessible transportation options, and an improved streetscape for the surrounding community.
